Atlanta, Georgia - A former employee of the Mississippi State Medical Association
(MSMA)
in Ridgeland, Mississippi, was ordered to pay restitution of $16,681.76 to the MSMA
Benefit Plan and Trust, fined $1,000 and sentenced September 24, 2002 to three
years’ probation. |

Jackye Wiebelt entered a guilty plea in federal district court in Jackson,
Mississippi on July 16, 2002 for one count of misdemeanor embezzlement from the MSMA
plan. The defendant failed to forward insurance commissions due to the plan
under an arrangement between the plan and an insurance company providing health
care benefits to plan members. |

The case was jointly investigated by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Atlanta
Office of the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration (EBSA) and the U.S.
Department of Justice Health Care Fraud Task Force, located in Jackson. |
