Last year, President Biden signed an Executive Order increasing access to home and community-based care and improving support for caregivers. In response, DOL and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) established a workgroup to identify critical gaps in data and knowledge about this important caregiving workforce. In April, DOL and HHS jointly released an issue brief describing the workgroup’s findings and recommendations and, on May 21, 2024, 1 p.m. ET, will hold a webinar to discuss this work.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission issued a final rule to implement the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), expanding protections and accommodations for pregnant workers and clarifying employers’ duties under the law. The PWFA requires most employers with 15 or more employees to provide reasonable accommodations for a worker’s known limitations related to pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, unless the accommodation will cause the employer an undue hardship.
