Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation (DEEOIC)

The U.S. Department of Labor, Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation (DEEOIC) has moved toward electronic processing of check payments. The DEEOIC will convert personal and business checks into electronic fund transfers or substitute checks. When you mail a completed, signed check to the DEEOIC, the information from your check is scanned and used to generate a potential electronic transfer or substitute check from your account.

When you provide a check as payment, you authorize DEEOIC to use the information from your check to make a one-time electronic fund transfer from your account, or, to process your check as a check transaction. You will not receive your original check back from your financial institution; it will be destroyed.

The electronic transfer of funds from your account can occur as soon as the same day we receive your check, or, within 24 hours of receipt of your check and will be shown on your regular statement. Therefore, you should ensure that you have sufficient funds in your account to process the transaction. If you do not have sufficient funds, we may attempt the transfer up to two additional times.
